WE DID NOT SACK FOWODE,OGUN STATE GOVT. CLAIMS...FOWODE WENT ON TENURE LEAVE

Contrary to reports in the media, Ogun State government has stated that out-going Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Mr Tokunbo Fowode, was not sacked, but that the government only approved his request to proceed on end of tenure leave. In a statement by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu, the government stated that Fowode, in a letter dated 17 September, 2013 and entitled: “Notification of End of Tenure” addressed to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Segun Odubela, requested that he would like to proceed on end of tenure leave from November 9, 2013, six months to the end of his tenure on May 9, 2014. “The rector, in his letter, stated that he had a cumulative of 308 days of leave. It was this request that the SSG in a reply dated, September 18, 2013, approved,” Olaniyonu stated. The commissioner also stated that the three-paragraph reply by the SSG further approved the appointment of Professor Bandele Itiola as the new rector with effect from November 10, 2013 “to allow for seamless transition.” He said the SSG had urged Fowode to “work hand in hand with him (Itiola) during the transition period in a way that will engender and foster continuity, accountability and stability.”

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE, MAPAITES ASK

When the students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta heard "The Wednesday Announcement" of the sack of the immediate past rector Arch. Tokunbo Fowode, little did they know that the Ogun state government led by Sen. Ibikunle Amosun has more in its fold. The state government soon gave orders to partnering banks of the institution to freeze all accounts operated by the school in order to forestall illegal and unapprove withdrawal which are likely to occur, while not stopping payments into the accounts. The bone of contention according to discussions between the students on campus now is how will they make payment for various fees through the school microfinance bank or the school portal, especially with the printing of receipts and course forms. They (students) nurse fear of what may become the payment, you will agree the fear is genuineas there were past events of 'double-paymeny' and non-refund by management. Prior to the sack, the management of the institution has already slated mid-October for the commencement of the second semester examinations but with new appointment, the students beg answer to speculation of change in academic calender. Also, being speculated within the campus community is the opinion of state government to increase not only the acceptance fees but also the school fees and the implementation of unfavourable policies. while these opinions remains mere speculations,we wait to see the arrival of the new rector, Prof. Itiola oludele

BREAKING NEWS: AMOSUN SACKS FOWODE, APPOINTS OLUDELE NEW RECTOR

The Rector of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Arc. Tokunbo Fowode, has been relieved of his appointment. Insidemapoly gathered that the sack of Arch. Fowode came on the heels of the freezing of the various bank accounts of the institution by the state government, you will also recall that the state government led by Gov. Amosun some months after its inauguration constituted a panel of inquiry to look into various activities of the institution as regards its management, finance and misappropriation of funds. A four-paragraph letter by the state Accountant-General, Mr. Seye Senfuye, dated September 17, conveyed the decision of government to freeze the polytechnic‘s accounts. The government directed all banks dealing with the institution to freeze “all manner of accounts –current, deposit and savings” which means that there can only be money deposits and no withdrawal on the accounts. Fowode, who hails from Ijebu-Ode, is currebtly on his second term as rector which was renewed on May 10, 2010 by the immediate past administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel. For about three years now, however, the polytechnic has been running without a Governing Council. Until his appointment as new MAPOLY Rector, Itiola was a senior lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, University of Ibadan. He was the Dean of the department between 2001 and 2005.
