ABUSE OF POWER: AMOSUN'S MEN KILL STUDENT,ONE OTHER

Bode
It was a black Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital when men of the Vigilante Service of the State,VSO shot dead a student of Moshod Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta; Moruf Raji, 29, and a staff of MTN, Akeem Usman ,32.
The deceased were murdered while chasing some suspected armed robbers.
DailyPost gathered that the incident occurred at Adigbe town in Abeokuta, at about 1.00am.
A team of the Vigilante Service had chased the robbers to the area and later ordered residents of 18A Sorinola Avenue, Ori’yanrin, to open the gate, believing they were shielding the suspected bandits.
An eye witness recalled that occupants of the building, who were mostly students, refused to open the gate because they thought some unwanted persons wanted to gain entry.  Both Moruf and Akeem, it was learnt, went out of their rooms to find out the identity of the visitors. But as they attempted to open the gate, a member of the VSO fired live bullets killing the duo instantly.
Not done, the VSO team forced their way into the compound, then ransacked the rooms within the compound.
The state government and police command are yet to react to the matter. Meanwhile, a DailyPost source says the students would mobilise to protest the unjust killing of their colleagues.

Dr. Chibuzor Asomugha informed Insidemapoly that the senate committee on education has intervened to find solutions to the total strike due to outcries from Nigerians at home and abroad to resolve the dispute between the Union and the FG.

According to him:”The Senate Committee has pledged to intervene and meet with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Office of Accountant-General of the Federation with a view to sorting out issues around the completion of appointment of members of governing councils of six polytechnics and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) imbroglio.”

Asomugha, who described the ASUP meeting with Senate Committee as fruitful, said “specific assignments were given to different stakeholders with Tuesday next week as deadline for results.”

Present at the intervention meeting were members of the Senate Committee on Education, Education Minister, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i and Minister of Labour and Productivity,  Chief Emeka Wogu.

Also present were Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, Dr. Mas’udu A. Kazaure;  National Publicity Secretary, ASUP, Mr. Clement Chairman; Permanent Secretary (Education) and Director of Establishment (Head Of Service)

It would be recalled that ASUP embarked on nationwide indefinite strike on April 29 over what they termed Federal Government’s insensitivity to its demands.

ASUP is asking government to adequately fund polytechnics, appoint qualified rectors in Nigerian Polytechnics, and resolve the issue of integrated polytechnic pay-roll system, among others

Insidemapoly hopes that this is not another "mission impossible" as poly students are tired and weary of staying at home idle
